Server setup

Follow these steps if you use Newsfeeds

1. Click here to download a newsfeeds server list
2. Open the downloaded file with notepad and append your username and password, separated by a colon, to the end of each line. For example, if my username is foo and my password is bar, a line would look like this after appending. Before--> cache.newsfeeds.com:119 After--> cache.newsfeeds.com:119:foo:bar
3. In NewsPro, click on the Server list' tab (Radar dish icon), right click 'Servers', and select 'Import server list'
4. Navigate to the file you saved from Step 1 and select it
5. Answer no to the question about access proxies
6. Expand the server list by clicking the + sign to see all your wonderful new servers! If you did step 2 right, all your servers will have your username and password set. Open Properties...Servers to verify this now

Explanation of all options

• New Server - Creates an empty server that you manually type in
• Get New Headers - gets new headers for all groups on all server
• Rescan headers - Rescans all headers for all groups on all server (see below for more info on rescan)
• Cancel getting new headers - Cancels getting new headers for all servers
• Enable servers - Enables selected servers for normal operations
• Disable servers - Disables selected servers which prevents them from being used for anything. useful if you exceed download limits
• Reset download limits - Temporarily disables a server when the server throws an error about exceeding download limits. The 'Suspend server for' value under Properties...General controls how long this suspension lasts
• Reset bandwidth counters - Resets the amount of traffic NewsPro has seen from this server. counter is listed to the right of the server name
• Import server list - Imports a file containing servers into NewsPro
• Export server list - Exports a file from NewsPro listing all configured servers
• New Server subset - Not needed anymore with Newsfeeds.

Now right click on an individual server

Explanation of all options

• Delete Servers - Deletes selected servers from the servers list
• Reset servers - Purges all headers for the selected servers. USE WITH CARE
• Rename server - change the name of the selected server
• Enable servers - Same as above
• Disable servers - Same as above
• Reset download limits - Same as above
• Reset bandwidth counters - Same as above
• Set auto reset time - Allows you to enter a time when NewsPro will reset the server for use again. For Newsfeeds, set to 1 or 2 AM CST since this is when the quotas get reset
• Exclude header bandwidth - Do not include bandwidth used for downloading headers in bandwidth usage numbers
• New newsgroup for this server - Creates new newsgroup for you to manually type the name into
• Attach all newsgroups - Attaches all subscribed newsgroups to selected servers.
• Get New Headers - gets new headers for all groups on selected servers
• Rescan headers - Rescans all headers for all groups on selected servers (see below for more info on rescan)
• Cancel getting new headers - Cancels getting new headers for selected servers
• Copy server names - Copies selected server names to the clipboard
• Server properties - Same as selecting server via Properties...Servers tab
