Menus

File Menu

• Newsgroups and servers - Displays a window with contents like the workspace (leftmost window)
• Newsgroup list - brings up a list of all known newsgroups for your servers
• Public server search - Displays public server search dialog
• New newsgroup - Adds an empty newsgroup for you to manually type in a name
• New server - Adds an empty server for you to manually type in a name
• Minimize disk accesses - Loads as much data into memory to avoid paging to disk
• Minimize disk access on start - Same as above, but toggles loading as much into memory when program starts
• Optimize database accesses - Shrinks and rearranges database for faster access
• Reset database - In my testing, it only saves the articles with bodies in the spool. Everything else goes away
• Switch database - Point NewsPro at a different database (if you have more than one)
• Print Setup - Doesn't work
• Bookmarks - Looks like favorites in IE. I never used this
• Clear temp directory - Deletes all files from NewsPro temp directory
• Save database and restart - Useful after downloading and queuing a lot of stuff. Doing this will make sure the latest headers are saved to the spool as well as all tasks in case of a crash
• Emergency exit - Tries to close NewsPro gracefully at first, then forces close if something is really wrong
• Exit - Exits NewsPro

Edit Menu

• Find - Invokes find dialog
• Message filter - Invokes message filter dialog
• Global message filter - Invokes global message filter dialog
• Filter editor - Allows creation, changing, and viewing of filters for use with the message filter
• Copy - Copies article subject to clipboard
• Apply filter (Open) - Opens dialog to select a saved filter which will be applied to current view. Any other filters already on the view will be discarded
• Apply filter (Add) - Opens dialog to select a saved filter which will be applied to current view. Any other filters already on the view will be kept
• Save filter - Save currently active filters to a file so it can be used later
• Reset filter - Removes any active filters from the current view
• Delete probable duplicates - Deletes headers that appear to be the same (subject identical, perhaps other criteria)
• Show deleted headers - Shows headers you have deleted but that have not yet been purged from the spool
• Purge deleted headers - Removes deleted headers from the spool
• Enable purging deleted headers - When enabled, automatically purges headers when they are deleted
• Fast mark for download - Not sure. Toggles something, but I don't know what it does beyond that
• Start minimized - Toggles whether or not NewsPro starts minimized or not
• Icon in system tray - Toggles whether or not NewsPro displays an icon in the system tray.
• Makes NewsPro default newsreader - Registers NewsPro as your system's default newsreader
• Font & colors - Allows you to customize color and fonts in NewsPro
• Properties - Displays NewsPro properties window
• Clear history - I don't know where the history is, but this clears it!

View Menu

• Toolbar - Toggles toolbar on and off
• Workspace - Toggles workspace (leftmost window on the side) on and off
• Console - Toggles console on and off
• Normalize - Arranges all windows

Threads Menu

• Enable threads - Displays threaded news articles in a tree format
• Expand threads - Fully expands the threaded articles so all posts are visible
• Collapse threads - Opposite of Expand threads
• Enable threads for a new window - When checked, any new window will display threads in a tree format

Partial Menu

• Enable autosupport for partial messages - Combines related partial messages into one article
• Partial messages in replies - Not too sure on this one
• Show incomplete partial messages - If checked, incomplete partial messages will be displayed in article listings
• Delete bodies of partials with missing parts (current group) - Purges bodies from the spool when partials are missing parts
• Delete bodies of partials with missing parts in all groups - Same as above, but for all groups
• Delete such bodies automatically from time to time - Automates above options to reduce disk usage
• Partial message autosupport for a new window - Not too sure. sounds related to posting articles
• Partial messages in replies for a new window - Not too sure. sounds related to posting articles
• Show incomplete messages for a new window - Not too sure. sounds related to posting articles
• Autocancel on errors - Not too sure. Sounds like it cancels a post if errors occur

Tasks Menu

• Task manager - View and interact with various tasks NewsPro is working on.
• Clear errors - Clears any errors listed anywhere the task manager
• Current mark for download priority - This is the default priority an article gets when selecting 'Download articles' from a context menu
• Suspend article tasks marked for later download - Pauses downloading of lower priority articles
• Retry failed articles - Try processing any articles that have previously failed for some reason
• Reset download limits - Clears the suspended server status (looks like a clock) for a server
• Reset bandwidth counters - Resets download counter back to 0
• Reset bandwidth counter on exceeding download limit - If checked, resets bandwidth counter when limit is exceeded
• Pending tasks - Opens a window listing all pending tasks on a per article basis. Click the 'Autosupport for partial messages' button on the toolbar for a different view (this is my preference)
• Failed tasks- Opens a window listing all failed tasks
• Pending and failed tasks - Combines the previous 2 windows into one window
• Pause tasks - Pauses or limits bandwidth (as per setting in Properties) usage for tasks
• Cancel all tasks - Cancels all tasks NewsPro has queued up
• Cancel Specific tasks - Allows you to cancel tasks of a particular type
• Autosave


• Scan autosave tasks now - Runs auto save now. This normally happens on an interval specified in Properties
• Reset autosave queue - Clears all articles currently in queue for autosave (they will be left in the spool file)
• Block autosave but queue for it - When checked, queue things but do not save them
• Visible autosave progress - Show a window indicating progress of autosave
• Enable scheduler - Toggles whether or not the scheduler is used
• Disable scheduler on start- Makes sure scheduler is disabled when NewsPro is first started
• Enable auto get headers- When checked, NewsPro will automatically get headers on the timetable as specified in Properties...Watch/Auto
• Disable auto get headers on start - Toggle auto get headers off when NewsPro starts
• Sort article task queue by date - Sorts article download queue by date (oldest first) to reduce running into retention issues with old articles being removed from a server due to age

Post Menu

• Post a new message - Posts a new message to UseNet
• Reply to the message - Posts a reply to the currently selected message
• Posted messages - Shows a list of all posted messages this session
• Get new headers from posting server - Just what it says
• Separate message for every attachment for a new window - Post a separate message for each file to be posted
• Append filenames of attachments for a new window - Appends filename to message subject
• Add file numbers for a new window - Adds numbers to subjects for each file to be posted
• Expand attachment box for a new window - New posts will start with the attachment section expanded by default

Window Menu

• New Window - Opens a copy of the currently active window
• Clone current view - Seems to do the same thing as 'New window'
• Close all - Closes all open windows
• Cascade - Organizes open windows in a cascading format
• Tile horizontally - Organizes open windows in a horizontally tiled format
• Tile vertically - Organizes open windows in a vertically tiled format
• Set column order/width - Sets all new windows to have the same layout as the active window
• Split/Unsplit - Toggles view pane on bottom of window to read articles in
• Split for a new window - If checked, split will be toggled on when new windows are open
• alt.binaries.cd.image.clonecd - This area will list all open windows. Clicking on one will activate it

Dialup Menu

• Dial - Initiate dial up session
• Hang Up - Terminate dial up session
• Finish all tasks and hang up - Terminate dial up session when all tasks complete
• Prevent non-schedule autodial on start - No idea as I am not on dialup
• Dial Up properties - Displays NewsPro properties for dialup connections such as username, etc

Help Menu

• Contents - Displays NewsPro help
• Getting Started - Launches 'Getting Started' website
• Homepage - Launches http://www.usenetopia.com/
• What is new - Launches change log
• Email support - Opens email message to send for support
• Uninstall info - Explains how to uninstall NewsPro
• About NewsPro - Shows registration information
